Vernon Ames

Vernon L. Ames, 85, of Austin died on July 12, 2010, at his home.
Vernon Lowell Ames was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Lyle, Minn., the son of Loy and Rena (Dahl) Ames.  He graduated from Austin High School and served in the US Coast Guard. Vernon was married to Beverly Earl on June 7, 1948, in Lyle, Minn., and they have lived in Austin where Vern worked as an electrician at the Hormel Foods Corporation until his retirement.
He was a member of the Moose Club and the Austin American Legion. Vern enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling and was an avid horseshoe and softball player.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a son, daughter and step-daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ames of Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kellee Ames of Rochester, Minn.; daughter, Sara Eisert of Henderson, Nev.; sons-in-law, Donald Wolfe of Austin, David Ihlow of Green Bay, Wis.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Rev. David Defor officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.
