A man who was asked to leave the Austin Medical Center, then returned, was arrested early Monday after a scuffle with police.
Eric Michael Young, 29, is in custody on charges of fourth-degree assault and obstructing the legal process, both gross misdemeanors. He was also cited for trespassing.
Young is scheduled for arraignment on Aug. 26.
According to a criminal complaint, officers were called to AMC at around 3:30 a.m. on Monday because Young was sitting in the lobby. Earlier that evening, Young was asked to leave for an unspecified reason and was told he would be arrested if he returned.
As officers tried to handcuff Young, he allegedly began to flex his wrists and struggle. He then kicked backwards at an officer, hitting him in the shin, the complaint states. Young was then taken to the ground, and officers eventually used a chemical irritant spray to subdue him before they cuffed him.
Young was then taken to jail.
