Charter Communications is hosting its Back to School Laptop Contest to see which two U.S. schools will each receive 50 laptop computers.

“We’re in the Internet business and onae of our missions is to support local education in areas we cover. This contest aligns with both those missions,” said Charter Director of Communications John Miller.

A school becomes eligible for the competition if a member of the public sends an essay explaining why the school deserves to be nominated.

Contest nominations can only be submitted by someone 18 years of age or older. The nominations must be submitted with a story explaining why the school deserves to win. Charter will stop accepting nominations on Aug. 12, when a panel of judges will narrow down the applicants to the 50 best nominations. The top schools can be voted for online from Aug. 16 to Sept. 20. The two schools that earn the most votes will receive 50 Lenovo G55 laptops for their school. Winners will be posted on Sept. 27 on the Charter website, www.charter.com.

“The competition is open to everyone. Each school can conduct its own campaign to win if they want,” said Miller. “I can’t think of a school in America that couldn’t use 50 laptops to help them further education.”
