David C “Burgy” Burgeson, 76

David C “Burgy” Burgeson, 76 of St. Paul, formally of Austin, died on Aug. 28, 2010. He was born on May 6, 1934, in Austin, to Clarence “Burgy” & Betty (Steck) Burgeson.
He attended Sumner Grade School and graduated from Austin High School in 1952. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1957 with a degree in mechanical engineering. While at the U, he was a member of the Gopher wrestling team.
He went to work as an engineer for the Babcock & Wilcox Company traveling around the country starting up new power plants. In 1967, he returned to Austin & became the chief engineer for Austin Utilities. He supervised electric, water, and steam production and was in charge of construction of the Northeast Power Plant.
In 1973, he left Austin for 30 years, working as a consultant on power plant equipment. He authored several articles in engineering magazines. During his career he worked in 300 power plants in 30 states. He was a retired professional engineer.
In 1975, he married Marie Sylvester of St Paul and resided in the St. Paul area for 35 years. He enjoyed camping and traveling. By pickup-camper, David toured 49 states and all the Canadian provinces and territories. He was an avid reader, especially history, and worked thousands of crosstic puzzles. He always seemed to have dogs and/or cats around.
He is survived by his wife Marie and many friends and family.
A remembrance open house is planned for Oct. 4, 2010 at 1449 and 1453 Goodrich Ave., St. Paul, MN. from 12-7:30 p.m., with a simple ceremony at 1:30 and again at 6:00 p.m.
