Krenz plans to name choice for vacant school board seat

Superintendant David Krenz said Friday he plans to make a recommendation for a new Austin School Board member at Monday night’s school board meeting.

Board members will then vote whether to accept Krenz’s nomination as a new school board member.

The school board seat has been vacant since March, when the board voted to removed Curt Rude. The school board decided to have a board vote for his replacement, which resulted in a three to three deadlock vote in July. Krenz came forward in August with a proposal that would allow him to select a nominee for the seat.

While the seat has been empty for about six months, Krenz believes the school board has acted as fast as possible.

According to him, the school board couldn’t actively search for a new member until after Rude’s period of a right to appeal his removal from the school board expired. The board formed a committee in May to design a process by which to fill his seat.

Under these circumstances, the school board is doing the best job it can.

“I don’t think it’s taken that long,” Krenz said.
