The Riverland volleyball team fell to Ridgewater by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-12 in Riverland Gym Saturday.

The Blue Devils (1-5 overall, 0-1 MCAC South) played Ridgewater close in the first two games, but ran out of gas in the third game.

“They push you to every limit and you have to play 100 percent just to keep up with them,” RCC head coach Helen Jahr. “It’s easy to get down in that third game after putting so much out there.”

RCC started the first game at a 9-9 tie, but it committed seven errors in the eight-point loss. The Blue Devils went on to lead the second game 13-11 after Cassie Masberg had a kill and served back-to-back aces.

Masberg, a freshman hitter from Waterville/Elysian/Morristown, led the Blue Devils with 10 kills and she also had 13 digs and one block.

After falling behind by five, RCC pulled to within 21-18 in game two when Masberg came up with a kill but Ridgewater scored four of the next five points to put it away.

“If you have any weaknesses, it’ll magnify against Ridgewater,” Jahr said. “But I feel optimistic about today. We played with them and I think we showed that nobody is unbeatable in our conference.”

Stephanie Loverink had six kills for RCC, Mercedes Miklya had 17 digs, Kristin Vesel had 11 set assists, Robin Arjes had three blocks and Danyel Hythecker had two blocks.
