Austin residents can expect Jo-Ann Fabrics to open its doors at some point in early November, according to the company’s public relations department.
While the store is set to open in the early part of the month, the Grand Opening is scheduled for Nov. 18 to 20, with special events planned throughout the time period. Celebrations will include sweepstakes and giveaways, among other events honoring area teachers.
The new store is located in the mini mall complex, which currently includes Target and Staples, off Interstate 90 and near Highway 218.
Hiring for the store is already complete. After a job fair held last month, the store is at full staff and is ready to get going.
Jo-Ann Fabrics is known for carrying everything a craft enthusiast may seek.
“This new store will provide local creative enthusiasts with a wide selection of merchandise and inspiration for craft projects ranging from scrapbooking, sewing and knitting, to beading, cake decorating and more. They house a vast assortment of crafting, floral and seasonal accessories, as well as home-decor and items and an extensive selection of fabrics for apparel, crafting, quilting, and home decorating,” according to Joni Canter, special events specialist for Jo-Ann Fabrics.
In August, Jo-Ann Fabrics corporate leaders announced it was closing its store in Albert Lea. A sign posted on the door of the Albert Lea location in August said the new Austin store would have more space.
Canter said Jo-Ann Fabrics was a good fit for the Austin area because the city’s demographic make-up matched that of Jo-Ann’s customer base.
