Looking ahead to winter

Although no snow has fallen yet this autumn, the City of Austin is gearing up for snow storm season.
Property owners must remove snow from sidewalks adjacent to their property within 12 hours of snowfall, Public Works Director Jon Erichson said at a City Council meeting Monday evening. If residents don’t remove snow, the city can remove it beginning 24 hours after it stops falling.
Those who do not remove all snow and ice will be charged 50 cents per linear foot for the city to remove the snow. If the bill isn’t paid, the property owner is assessed for that amount, Erichson said.
If a snow emergency is declared, parking is prohibited between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. in business areas of the city for 72 hours after the emergency is declared.
Even-odd parking also goes into effect in residential areas during a snow emergency, meaning that residents should park on the sides of streets bearing even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days of the month and on the sides of streets bearing odd-numbered addresses on odd-numbered days of the month.
