The Riverland soccer team saw its season come to an end after Crossroads College scored in the with three minutes remaining in Austin Saturday.
Crossroads walked away with a 1-0 win over the Blue Devils (1-13 overall), who were missing some players.
Captain Tom Onesembey was injured in warmups, Lucas Dang was out with an injury and Estaban Sebastion had to leave with an injury.
RCC also missed some good chances to score as Tan Do, Francisco Morlales and Luke Thompson all had clean looks that they didn’t connect on.
“Some times the better team doesn’t get to win,” RCC head coach Soner Dogan said. “Every one of my players on and off the field did what they were supposed to do. We acted as a unit. Unfortunately, we missed so many chances today.”
Miguel Cisneros and Tan Do played in their last game for the Blue Devils. Both were also on the squad last season.
“These guys are the builders of future Riverland Soccer program which will be one of the strongest in and around the state of Minnesota,” Dogan said. “I wish them best of luck in their future academic life.”
Dogan said that his program is on the rise after finishing its second year of competition.
“This year we didn’t get the results that we wanted but, we played much better soccer than the last year,” he said. “Riverland soccer program is on the right direction. Building a good sports program or any program is not an easy task and it doesn’t happen in a year or two, it happens gradually.”
