Austin likely to miss out on snow storm

The storm system that is expected to dump up to two feet of snow on the Twin Cities is likely going to miss the Austin area, according to the National Weather Service.
“We’re expecting the majority of the snow to fall west of the Austin area,” said NWS Meteorologist Jessica Brooks. “We think it’s going to stay rather light over there.”
While some areas can expect more than others, Brooks said two inches of snow are in the forecast for Austin.
Typically the National Weather Service will not issue winter advisories for areas unless the area is likely to see up to three inches of snow on the ground. However, Brooks said the first snowfall generally causes some trouble, especially on the road.
“People aren’t always aware of what is going on or they’re not thinking in the frame of winter,” she said.
Snowfall is expected to amount to less than one inch by early Saturday morning. Snow is expected to pick up again around 9 a.m. Saturday and last through the night into Sunday morning.
