Evelyn M. Irvin, 93, of Austin, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center.

Evelyn was born Nov. 16, 1916 in Austin to William and Mary Evelyn Skahan. She graduated from high school and went on to be an English Teacher. Evelyn was united in marriage to Joseph Irvin. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1996.

Evelyn was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church, the Eagles Club and the Moose Club. Evelyn held every office there was in the Eagles and was also the State President.

She is survived by two daughters: Charmaine M. (Bruce) Turner, Council Bluffs, IA; Margaret Askerud, Austin; son-in-law, Jack Horstmann, Austin; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Charlotte Horstmann (Charmaine’s twin sister); son, Eugene Irvin; brothers: Ray and Johnny Skahan; and sisters: Ruby Adams and Margaret Skahan.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Father John Traufler officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. Eagles Ritual on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The honorary casket bearer will be Jon Horstmann. The casket bearers will be Jim Horstmann, Jeff Horstmann, Joe Horstmann, Frank Warth, Shawn Askerud, Erick Askerud and Michael Murphy.
