Raymond Dean McAlister, 63 of Austin, died at Austin Medical Center Oct. 29, 2010.
He was born July 9, 1947 to Charles and Hazel (Wood) McAlister in Austin. A lifelong Mapleview resident, Ray attended Austin School and in 1964, joined the Navy. He married Alida Ann Kretschmer on Sept. 2, 1967 in Zion, IL. After serving his country for eight years, Ray was honorably discharged in 1972 with a rank of E-6. He attended Austin Vocational Technical Institute receiving a degree in auto machining and mechanics. A member of Church of Christ, Ray loved stock car racing and camping and fishing with the family. Raymond was an avid horseman, a member of Mower County Trailblazers and a Vikings fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren go-carting; everything he did revolved around them.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Alida McAlister, Austin; three daughters: Lisa McAlister, Farmington; Dina (John) O’Harra, Austin, Tracy Rietveld, Austin; son, Richard McAlister, Austin; six grandchildren: Alex, Noah, Lucas, Aiden, Jake and Thomas; brother, Lawrence (Jeannine) McAlister , Mapleview; sister, Rosella (Kenneth) Nash, Mapleview; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Harold, Kenneth and Donald.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at Austin Church of Christ with Pastor David DeFor officiating. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, is in charge of arrangements. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin with military rites by American Legion Post 91.
