The jail is now officially open for business.

According to County Coordinator Craig Oscarson, inmates were transferred from the old structure to the new jail on Monday.

Aside from a few assorted pieces of equipment, the old jail is empty for the first time since being built in the 1960s.

The public will soon have a chance to view the old jail. Sometime in 2011, the county will open up the old jail to public tours. Commissioners said it will be an “eye-opener” compared to the new facility, which was open to the public in September.
