The AmericInn in Austin is now a family owned business.
On Thursday, the Powell-Kellogg family officially took over the reins at the hotel, previously owned by an out-of-town entity.
The store will now be run by Larry and Cindy Powell, along Cindy’s father, Jerry Kellogg, and her sister, Pam Kellogg.
With a family history in the restaurant business, Cindy said the group is excited to set out on a new business venture.
“It’s always been a little dream of ours,” she said. “When this opportunity to came up, we thought, ‘let’s take a crack at it.’”
The first weekend on the job, the crew was hit with a lot of business, which Cindy said helped the family adjust to the new lifestyle.
Cindy said the AmericInn will keep its name and employees with the hotel will remain employed. There will, however, be some changes to the hotel’s interior.
“There are going to be a lot of changes in the next six months,” Cindy said.
All rooms and lobbies will be remodeled, likely within the next six months.
“It will be a whole new look,” Cindy said.
AmericInn has been in Austin for 11 years under the same ownership.
