Just because it’s the end of January doesn’t mean we’re done with winter.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the Austin area until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Austin and surrounding areas are expected to get between 2 to 4 inches during the day today, with another inch or two at night. As of 8 a.m., Austin had about 1 1/2 inches, according to Todd Shea, meteorologist at the National Weather Service-La Crosse.
“Use a little extra caution when traveling today,” Shea said. “Take it a little slower. Realize that that thin layer of snow can get a little dicey at times.”
Temperatures won’t be an aggravating factor, as today’s high should be around 20, and a low of 9 is expected tonight. Temps will peak at 15 to 20 tomorrow as well.
There will be another winter storm system moving through the area Tuesday, although the brunt of it will hit northern Iowa. Austin could still see about an inch of snowfall, according to Shea.
