The Southland boys basketball team was able to hold most of the No. 1 ranked Bulldogs in check, but they had a lot of trouble with their top scorer.
Senior guard Cole Olstad led Plainview/Elgin/Millville (16-1 overall) with 43 points as they topped Southland (11-7 overall) 81-57 in Adams Friday.
No other P/E/M player scored more than six, but Olstad had 25 second half points to break open a game that was 34-29 at the half.
“(Olstad) was the man and he took it to us in the second half,” Southland head coach Jon Thalberg said. “It was a good game but they just chipped away and they’ve got a little more experience than us.”
Alan May had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Southland.
Southland scoring: Nick Schmitz, 14; Decker Bendtsen, 13; Mike Goergen, 13; Alan May, 10; Sam Noterman, 4; Logan Vlasaty, 3; free throws: 67 percent (8-for-12)
