Allister Carol Hulst, 82

Allister Carol Hulst, 82, of rural Waltham, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Feb. 1, from Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, after battling cancer for 14 years.
Allister “Al,” the son of Ralph N. Hulst and Margaret Dolphin Hulst, was born Dec. 25, 1928, in Chicago. The family moved several times, because of his father’s job. The family moved to Sioux City, Iowa in 1939. Al joined the US Navy in February of 1946, and was discharged in Novemer of 1947. He had various jobs, and in 1950, he farmed with his dad west of Austin. Al married Margaret Brown on Sept. 30, 1951, and they lived in Mason City. In 1957, they moved to Waltham, and have resided in the area until the present. He retired from farming on Jan. 1, 1994. Al was a member of Bethlehem Free Methodist Church of Austin. He had a special love for family and friends and was a good, kind and giving man to everyone. He enjoyed farming, fishing, traveling, and family activities. One could always find him fixing something or helping someone.
Al is survived by his wife, Margaret Hulst of rural Waltham; son, Gregory (Kathy) Hulst, Waltham; grandchildren, Jennifer Hulst of Bloomington, Minn., Tara (Sean) Arndt of Waltham, Tiffany (Brian) Clemenson of Zumbrota, Justin Wood of Waltham; Samuel Hulst of Waltham; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marlyn (Lois) Hulst of Sioux City, Lewellyn (Barbara) of Austin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Keith Wood.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW in Hayfield. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
