The Hayfield girls basketball team took a big lead early and it finished the job in a 37-20 win over Blooming Prairie in the regular season finale for both teams in BP Tuesday.
The Vikings (13-12 overall) led 26-1 at the half as BP (12-12 overall) had a nightmare first half.
“I’ve never seen that in 18 years of coaching,” BP head coach John Worke said. “We missed a couple of lay-ups and a short jumper early and that set the tone. The girls started pressing themselves.”
Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said he could feel for Worke’s squad.
“It was one of those games we’ve all been in,” he said. “The more they missed, the worse it got and the more we made, the better we played. It was nice to see (BP) come back and play well in the second half.”
BP will host Glenville/Emmons for Subsection 1A playoff game Friday at 7 p.m. and Hayfield will travel to Blue Earth for a Subsection 2AA playoff game next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
