The Riverland men’s basketball team wasn’t clicking in a 72-64 loss to Minnesota West in Riverland Gym.
It was the first conference win for the Jays (9-11 overall, 1-7 MCAC South), who led for most of the night.
Denzel Smith started the night with a steal and a dunk to put RCC (12-10 overall, 3-4 MCAC South) up 2-0 and the Blue Devils led 6-4 after a jumper by Josh Davis, but West responded with a 14-2 run and it never trailed again.
The Blue Devils got as close as 57-50 after Nicco Montgomery hit a pair of free throws with 6:47 left in the game, but they couldn’t get any closer as they hit just three of 18 three-point attempts and turned the ball over 20 times.
