Two house fires broke out in the Austin area over the weekend — both were confined to one floor.
Austin police and fire responded to a small electrical fire in the basement of 711 1st Dr. NW in Austin Saturday afternoon. The fire began on a black electrical cord apparently in the basement wall, according to the police report.
Nobody was injured and the damage estimate is less than $500.
On Sunday morning, Austin Fire Department, Mower County Sheriff’s deputies and Dexter Fire Department responded to a fire at the 60000 block of 250th Street in Dexter.
Kevin Hardecoph, the home’s tenant, told police everyone got out of the house safe. He said the blaze appeared to have started in a bedroom because of a space heater.
Deputies and fire teams were on the scene for two and a half hours. Damage was confined to the second floor, but the total damage estimate is unknown at this time.
