The Austin gymnastics team had to settle for second place in the Big Nine meet at Owatonna Saturday.
The Packers finished with a score of 138.5, while the Huskies won their third straight conference title with a score of 140.4.
Austin trailed by just a tenth of a point going into the last rotation, where the Packers were on the bars and the Huskies were on the beam.
“We did what we were supposed to do and we were in position to win the conference,” Austin head coach Mark Raymond said. “But Owatonna did what it had to and they looked good on the beam.”
Austin shined on the floor as Abby Bickler, who was second, Selena Hataye, who took third, and Carolyn Hackel, who was sixth, all finished well.
“We looked really good on the floor and Rachel Quandt and Cassidy Bawek did a good job of getting us started with solid routines,” Raymond said. “This is an unselfish group of girls and they understand when we make lineup changes.”
Austin had a strong showing in the vault as Hackel and Bickler scored a 9.3 and Hataye had a 9.15.
