One of Austin’s two state qualifying swimmers will be in Saturday’s finals at the Class ‘A’ state swimming and diving meet.
Austin senior took eighth in the 100-yard individual medley, where he will swim in Saturday’s finals and he was 19th in the 100-yard butterfly at the preliminaries in the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis Friday.
Thorsheim finished with a career-best time of 2:03.99 in the 100-IM and he made the finals by five-tenths of a second.
Austin sophomore Nick Brehmer took 10th in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles and will swim in Saturday’s consolation races in both events.
Brehmer finished with a time of 1:49.83 in the 200-freestyle. That time was almost a second faster than his career-best section time and it was just four-tenths of a second from getting him in the finals.
Brehmer swam a career best-time of 49.77 in the 100-freestyle, but he was two-tenths of a second from qualifying for the finals.
Thorsheim had a career-best time of 57.07 seconds in the 100-butterfly.
