ROCHESTER — The Blooming Prairie girls basketball team couldn’t get its offense going in a season-ending 54-39 loss to Faribault Bethlehem Academy in the Section 1A West Division semifinals in Mayo Civic Auditorium Tuesday.
The No. 3 seeded Awesome Blossoms (13-13 overall) had leads of 11-10 and 21-20 in the first half, but never held an advantage in the second half as No. 2 FBA (15-12 overall) scored the last four points of the first half and the first three points of the second half.
It was the 11th time that BP was held under 40 points this season
“We struggle scoring and that’s the bottom line. We struggle to get 40 often,” BP head coach John Worke said. “We had the opportunities and they didn’t go in.”
While FBA didn’t have a strong shooting night, they out-rebounded BP 42-28.
“The biggest thing in the first half was offensive rebounds,” Worke said. “You work hard to have them miss and then you give them second or third opportunities. You can’t do that.”
BP got as close as 41-35 after Janelle Morem scored with 4:30 left, but BP turned it over on its next possession and Jessica Matthews converted a three-point play with 4:07 left to make it 44-35.
Matthews led FBA with 21 points, while senior Whitney Burt led BP with 11 points. Senior guard Erica Manske had four points, five rebounds and five blocks and Morem had four assists.
