A Grand Meadow man died Tuesday night after his semi-truck rear-ended a car parked partially on the shoulder of Interstate 80 near Des Moines, Iowa.
Richard Quentin Hoefs, 84, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. He was apparently headed east on Interstate 80 near mile marker 138 when his semi hit the car of Justin Liggins, 18, of Des Moines.
According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Liggins was parked partially on the outside shoulder of the freeway. The collision caused the semi-truck to roll and come to rest on its top in the ditch.
Hoefs’ semi is registered to Stier Farms Inc. of Grand Meadow.
Liggins was injured but treated at the scene, according to the report.
The State Patrol report indicates Liggins was wearing his seatbelt, but Hoefs was not.
