Ruby Myrtle Osmon, 91, of Austin, died at Sacred Heart Sunday evening, March 20, 2011.
She was born June 2, 1919, to Anton and Bertha (Foss) Kastelle in Montana. Ruby’s mother died three days after Ruby’s birth. When Ruby was 7 years old, she went to live with Uncle Oscar and Auntie Serena who raised her as their own. She attended school in the Fergus Falls area and married Kenneth Osmon on May 14, 1939, in Aastad Township, Ottertail County, Minn. They were both raised on a farm in the Fergus Falls area. They resided in Fergus most of their lives. Ruby loved being outside on the farm and gardening. Kenneth died in 1980. In the late 1990s, she moved to Austin. An avid Minnesota Twins fan, she loved baseball, birds and dogs, as well as making lefsa and Scandinavian treats.
Survivors include two sons, Elroy “Roy” (Mary) Osmon of New Berlin, Wis.; Ronald “Ron” (Desiree) Osmon of Austin; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; the aunt and uncle who raised her; three half brothers; two half sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin with Todd Portinga, Associate in Ministry, officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Knollwood Cemetery in Fergus Falls at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
