Area students will get a first-hand look at government Tuesday.
Local high school students are scheduled to attend the county board’s regular meeting Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. According to County Coordinator Craig Oscarson, high school seniors from across Mower County participate in the event every year, where they get a tour of the county government center, attend portions of the county board meeting and have lunch at the American Legion in Austin.
“In county government we can impact your life almost from the day you’re born until the day you die,” Oscarson said. “It’s important to know what we do and what we can do for you.”
Commissioners will be busy with a lot of housekeeping and policy work at tomorrow’s meeting.
Margene Gunderson, director of health services, will give a summary report on the health services department’s activities in 2010.
Board members will also finalize a finance committee recommendation to cut a community work service coordinator position, which Oscarson said was necessary to help maintain the county budget.
