A Waltham man pleaded not guilty Thursday in Mower County Court to allegations that he broke into a woman’s home and stole her beer.
Jeffrey Leonard Ehmke, 54, faces charges of first-degree burglary, third-degree damage to property and driving after cancellation. He is currently on probation for domestic assault.
According to Sheriff Terese Amazi, deputies responded to a home at the 400 block of Columbus Avenue South in Waltham on Feb. 25, where Ehmke had been drinking with a resident.
Ehmke apparently left the residence, came back and was told he couldn’t drink there anymore, according to police reports.
Ehmke allegedly broke the home’s front door by slamming his body and foot into it. He then went inside, called the victim names, took beer and left again.
Deputies later found him hiding in a closet at a relative’s home pretending to be asleep.
