Mavis Lande, 90

Mavis K. Lande, 90, of Albert Lea, formerly of Lake Mills, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2011, at Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will take place in Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Mavis Kathleen Lande, daughter of Andrew and Bettie (Engelsrud) Rasmusson was born on Sept. 25, 1920, in Emmons. She graduated from Emmons High School in 1938. After graduation she attended business school in Mason City, Iowa.

On Dec. 28, 1940, she was united in marriage to Raymond L. Lande at Salem Lutheran Church. Mavis lived in Lake Mills for 68 years. In May of 2009, she moved to an assisted living apartment at Oak Park Place in Albert Lea.

Mavis was employed at LM Plastic Company for several years and later worked in the kitchen/ lunchroom at Lake Mills Community School. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, cooking, baking, gardening, and reading, for many years, she also belonged to a Knitting Club and Bridge Club. Mavis was blessed with many lifelong friendships. She was an active member at Salem Lutheran Church. She belonged to Alter Guild, Rachel Circle, WELCA and Bible Study. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Otto Chose No. 235.

Mavis is survived by her loving daughters: Kathy Sevley of Kiester and Julie Posthumus and her husband James of Burnsville. She had six grandchildren: Kimberly Stollard and special friend Jim Haubenschild of Blooming Prairie, Scott Sevley and his fiancée Lyne Roeder of Thompson, Iowa, Jeremy Sevley of Kiester, Jennifer Reiland and her husband Leonard Reiland of Burnsville, Justin Posthumus and his special friend Angela Sliva of Eagan and Jason Posthumus of Burnsville. Mavis also had seven great-grandchildren: Brittany Knutdson, Samantha Sevley, Trevin Stollard, Samuel and Madeline Reiland, and Tyler and Juliana Posthumus. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nellie Rasmusson: along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Everette Rasmusson; her husband, Raymond; and a son-in-law, Earl Sevley.
