Counterfeit bills are increasingly showing up in southern Minnesota.

The Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce issued a counterfeit money alert Tuesday warning local businesses of fake $20, $50 and $100 found in Faribault.

The bills, which can pass counterfeit pen tests, may sometimes have the wrong face on them. The FACOC warned that, “you might see Lincoln or Washington instead of Franklin on the $100 bill.”

Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said previously that a few counterfeit $100 bills were recently reported, but Austin police haven’t seen fake bills like the ones in Faribault.

Krueger said residents should report anyone they see using these fake bills or get a vehicle description without putting themselves in harms way.
