Humane Society shows off canines
One dog found a new home this weekend, and three others may follow.
Ten dogs from the Mower County Humane Society were on display in the parking lot of the Cooperative Response Center on Saturday.
“It’s a good chance for people to see dogs in a little more inviting setting,” said Jay Zimmerman, who runs the MCHS dog kennel.
The open house was in part a fundraiser for MCHS, but it was mostly intending to bring awareness to the shelter and land dogs in a new home.
“It’s a very nice partnership,” said Julie Schramek, CRC executive assistant and corporate communications manager.
“Awareness is a big part of the program,” she added.
Despite rainy weather, people still came to adapt dogs. Laura Schulte saw a picture of Carl, a St. Barnard and hound mix, online and drove about 70 miles from Mabel to meet him.
“Even with the weather, we see people coming,” Schramek said.
Angie Duis, a CRC team leader, said the CRC is hosting a “Go Fetch” month to raise money at the center for the humane society.
The center is hosting a cutest pet competition and charging for ballots.
