The Southland baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak by topping Caledonia/Spring Grove (6-6 overall) 14-4 in five innings Adams Wednesday.

The 14 runs scored are a season-high for the Rebels (9-3 overall, 9-3 Three Rivers), who trailed 4-1 before posting six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Southland put up seven runs in the fifth inning to end the game.

“We hit the ball better and played better defense than we have been,” Southland head coach Scott Retterath said. “We were more relaxed and confident and we looked like a totally different team than we did last night (in a loss to Wabasha/Kellogg).”

Senior Tom Sheely picked up the win for the Rebels.

“It was his first pitching outing in awhile and he started leaving it up in the strike zone early, but he settled down after that,” Retterath said.
