Southland softball team wins in 10

The Southland softball team came up with clutch hits at the right time as it beat Wabasha/Kellogg 7-6 in 10 innings in Rose Creek Tuesday.

Southland’s No. 9 hitter Haley Kirkpatrick led off the 10th inning with a single and she advanced to second on a single by Jana Schammel.Kirkpatrick moved to third on a bunt by Lindsey Bottema before scoring winning run on a sacrifice fly by Brandi Schammel.

Southland (9-6 overall) led 4-0 going into the sixth, but W/K (7-6 overall) scored six in a row to go up 6-4 in the seventh.

Southland’s Kelli Smith forced extra innings when she knocked in two runs with a double in the bottom of the seventh.
