Austin sophomore Abby Snater is headed to the Class ‘AA’ state track and field meet after she set a career-best mark in the pole vault at the Section 1AA meet in Lakeville Saturday.
Snater, who had previously vaulted as high as 10 feet, 8 inches, went up to 11-1 to beat the state qualifying standard by four inches.
Snater finished fourth and was just three inches behind the first place vaulter.
Snater was Austin’s lone state qualifier, but Carolyn Hackel finished ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.05 seconds and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.68 seconds. The eighth grader improved her times in both events from the preliminaries, but it wasn’t enough for her to get to state.
Madison Overby took seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:29.37.
For the Packer boys, Austin junior Nate Schwab took seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:37.03.
Freshman Andrew Hagan finished 13th in the discus with a distance of 134-5.
