Dorothy Evelyn Meany of Austin, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the age of 87.
Dorothy was born on Nov. 11, 1923, in Towoomba, Queensland, Australia.
She met Rayburn Dillon Earl while he was serving during World War II in Australia. She married Rayburn and moved to the United States, where they made their home in Austin. She later married Thomas Francis Meany and moved to Minneapolis, and then Ft. Myers, Fla.
She is survived by daughters: Dee Earl, Susan (John) Murphy, Margret Maker (Brooke Bassett), Helen (Jon) Liss, Ruth Meany and sons: Francis Patrick (Sally) Meany and Shaun (Cherise) Meany. She was known as “Grandma GoGo” to grandchildren: Jennifer (Steve) Johnson, Jill (Tony) Rollie, Liza Liss (John Tedesco), Simon Crane (Emily Stone) Thomas (Julie) Meany, Louis (Thea) DeRudder, Mara Liss (Adam Prybelski), Gavin Meany, Jill (Tony) Rollie, Zoe Taylor, Rachel Liss (Justin Baratz), Alison DeRudder, and Evan Meany; as well as by eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Terry (Barbara) Meany, sisters-in-law, Helen (Dick) Wellin, Ruth Murphy (Paul Mohrbacher) and Anne Huntley and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Francis Meany; parents, Albert Robert and Doris Evelyn (Gohring) Kuhneman; and her brother, John “Jack” (Alice) Kuhneman.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. June 13, 2011, at the Historic Hormel Home, 208 Fourth Ave. NW in Austin. Dorothy graciously donated her body to the Mayo Medical Center for medical education purposes. Interment will be at a later date at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Diabetes Association or your favorite charity.
