The Austin Greyhounds took third place at the Red Wing tournament after they beat Prior Lake 7-0 Sunday.
Bryan Toov went the distance in the win as he threw just 88 pitches in nine innings of work.
“He threw efficiently like the old Toov we knew in the college days against a good team,” Hounds player/manager John Frein said. “He was our MVP of the day.”
Craig Braaten hit a two-run homer to put the Hounds (9-5 overall) on the board.
The Hounds beat New Richmond, Wis. 8-4 and fell to Red Wing 5-4 in 11 innings Saturday.
Austin had led Red Wing 4-0 on the strength of a Dan Zielke two-run homer, but the Hounds allowed a couple of unearned runs to let the lead slip away.
“That loss was disheartening for us because we felt we were the better team,” Frein said. “We’re not quite clicking yet, but we’re getting close.”
Zach Schara picked up the win against New Richmond and Joe Huffman took the loss in relief against Red Wing.
The Hounds will host the Southern Minny Red Legs Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the SPAMTown Challenge Thursday-Sunday at Marcusen Park.
