Lane closures expected on Interstate 35

Motorists will encounter single lane traffic on the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 near Owatonna starting Monday, June 13, through September, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The ramp connecting westbound Highway 14 to southbound I-35 will remain closed, motorists should continue to follow the posted detour.
MnDOT anticipates periods of stop-and-go traffic in each direction before the construction zone due to heavy traffic volumes, especially on Friday and Sunday evenings. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes and avoid the area during peak travel times, if possible.
During backups, motorists should use both lanes and take turns merging into the construction zone, where single-lane traffic begins. This method reduces rear-end crashes and helps keep traffic flowing as best as possible.
The closures are necessary as work continues on the three-year reconstruction of Highway 14 from Waseca to Owatonna which also includes construction of a new interchange at I-35 and Highway 14.
When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway.
