As one of the original Fourth of July celebrations in Mower County, Lyle residents are planning for another good turnout. Lyle’s Independence Days kicks off early, as soon as people are leaving work 5 p.m. on Friday.

Friday will feature food specials, a beanbag tournament and music by DJ MJ Sounds. However, Lyle’s staple event, a truck, tractor and semi pull, is saved for all day on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. The semi pull, which is fairly new to Independence Days, has gained a lot of momentum, according to Darwin Small, co-chairman of the celebration.

“That’s getting to be a bigger event every year,” he said. “It really draws a lot of people.”

The Amish Playboys will continue the day once the sun goes down with a dance at the American Legion. More music will continue on Sunday, with the Big Ben & Brian Concertina Band, along with plenty of kids games and activities in the park.

The celebration will end with what has become one of the best fireworks displays in the area for a long time.

“It’s been going on forever,” said Diane Witt, Lyle city clerk.
