NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) — A bomb squad was called to investigate the contents of two military surplus bags, closing a Brown County road for about an hour near New Ulm.

A Sleepy Eye resident called sheriff’s deputies Sunday to say that he was on his way to their department with the military bags he bought at a sale. The caller said when he opened the padded bags he discovered possible land mines. Inside the bags were round silver cylinders about six inches in diameter and two inches high.

Authorities told the man to stop where he was on County Road 27 in Milford Township and wait for a deputy to arrive.

A bomb squad from Bloomington X-rayed the cylinders and found no explosive material was inside.
