Volunteers plan to clean Cedar River

A local volunteer group is ready to get dirty, so the Cedar River can get clean.
The Austin Rotary Club will clean a stretch of the river in Austin shortly after they meet at 9 a.m. in Austin Saturday morning. With the use of waders, canoes and trash bags, they will be able to pull small- to medium-sized debris from the banks and bottom of the river. The cleanup falls under the Department of Natural Resources Adopt a River program, which the Cedar River Watershed District has employed in the area for the next two years.
Several other groups have signed up for the program, as well. Each group will be assigned a stretch of the Cedar River to clean this summer, and once more next year. To join the program, contact CRWD at 507-434-2603.
