David Marvin Orth, age 78 of Byron, formerly of Austin, died at Seasons Hospice in Rochester Thursday morning, July 14, 2011.

He was born Oct. 9, 1932 to Floyd and Gladys (Griep) Orth in Austin, Minn. where he was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He grew up on a farm east of Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1950. He married Shirley Elaine Felty on Jan. 16, 1951.

He went to work for Geo. A. Hormel & Company in 1952. From 1969 to 1994 David did auto repairs and service, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved his job in the Spam department of Hormel where he retired in 1985. David also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and especially loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his dog, Hunter. Shirley and David attended Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Byron.

Survivors include his wife: Shirley; children: Jeffery (Kathy) Orth, Rochester; Gregory (Kira) Orth, Byron; Rodney (Gina) Orth, Byron; Sherilyn (Steve) Bahnemann, Rochester; Thomas (Pratheba) Orth, Beaverton, Oregon; Tammy (Troy) Watkins, Austin; 18 grandchildren: Jeremy, Katie, Joel, Jon, Jim, Kari, Joshua Orth, Jared and Sarah Orth, Michelle (Mike) Williams, Jennelle (Anthony) Guanzon, Danielle (Glen) Kranz, Matthew (fiancé, Becky Cook) and Brandon Bahnemann, Daivik and Milana Orth ,Tara and Tori; Watkins; two great grandchildren: Mysti and Cooper Williams; brother: Henry (Robin) Orth, Austin; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Floyd Orth and a brother, Earl.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2011, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Matthew Lehmann officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery, Austin.
