Phillip Henricks, 60

Phillip Henricks “Jazzy J,” 60, of Minneapolis. Our lives were forever changed when on June 3, 2011, Phil lost his valiant three-year struggle with cancer; he passed away peacefully at home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Thelma Henricks of Austin and his beloved brother, Herb of

Rochester.

Phil is survived by his sons, Morgan and Jacob of Minneapolis; sister, Mona Moede and husband John of Golden Valley and Palm Springs, Calif.; four brothers, Ronald of Chester, Iowa, Thomas and wife Carmine of Marietta, Ga., Gerald and wife, Susan of Farmington, Theodore and wife, Kathy, of Fairport, N.Y., and sister-in-law Christene Henricks of Rochester; a host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins; and a treasured group of friends from the “world of music” who helped him continuously over the past three years. Phil was widely known within the Twin Cities community as the founder of TwinCitiesRadio.net, which featured local talent through live Internet radio.

Upon graduation from Austin High School in 1969, he pursued a career in hotel management and was also a co-founder, developer and manager of chemical dependency rehabilitation centers in Minnesota, Ohio and New Jersey. Upon his return to Minnesota, in between fishing trips to Duluth, he attended college and became certified as an information analyst and technician.

Phil’s involvement in the music industry resulted from his love of music and the great pleasure he experienced when he spent his late afternoons and evenings in Minneapolis uptown coffee houses where he listened to local artists perform and enjoyed his favorite “cup of java.” A service in tribute to Phil was held on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel in south Minneapolis.
