United Way advancing funds

In response to the state government shutdown, the United Way of Mower County is advancing funds early to aid programs and services.

“United Way recognizes the strain a state shutdown puts on our much needed providers,” said Mandi Lighthizer-Schmidt, Executive Director of United Way of Mower County. “Advancing funds helps providers continue to provide services and keep employees paid. It is in everyone’s best interest to keep services running during this difficult time.”

United Way of Mower County’s board made the decision at its June meeting.

“The Board was thinking about the potential for a state shut down and wanted to be as proactive as possible in keeping services running and the effect a shutdown has on our entire community,” Lighthizer-Schmidt said.

United Way of Mower County, along with partners, met June 21 to discuss the possible implications to the community and its citizens in the event of a shutdown.
