A journey to see a ‘Superstar’
Published 3:21 pm Saturday, August 6, 2011
This past week we traveled to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres in Chanhassen for “Jesus Christ Super Star.”
The production was a fabulous production, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. This is the powerful story, told in song, of the final seven days in the life of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The music sung was brilliant along with the actors cast.
The Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is 43 years old and was purchased this past year by a trio of long standing artistic directors. They continue to carry on the tradition with their staff of more than 300. Their interest is in remaining true to the original concept and updating existing features to maintain the status of the largest privately owned professional theater in the nation.
In addition to the main theater, which seats more than 600, three other theaters offer shows, sometimes at the same time with the other stages. Back stage tours are also offered for a behind the scenes look, plus there is also availability for big conventions and weddings.
We have on our schedule the newest production which is now opening, “Hairspray.”
This musical won eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical) and then inspired a movie. Promising to be popular performance, we have reserved a Sunday afternoon show with dinner prior. We will have more details on both of these productions. We are indeed fortunate to have the availability of so many great theaters in our area, including Chanhassen.
