Michael Edling, 54

Memorial services for Michael W. Edling, of Rochester, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Timothy Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday evening and one hour prior to the service at Bonnerup Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Theodore Cemetery.
Michael died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Sunrise Cottage in Rochester. He was 54 years of age.
Michael was born Jan. 7, 1957, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Jack and Mardell (Ries) Edling. He was a graduate of Albert Lea High School, Austin Community College and Winona State University. Michael had been a member of St Theodore Catholic Church.
Michael was a golf professional by trade and was the golf pro and manager of the Albert Lea Country Club. He also had been the professional at the Mankato Golf Club and in Phoenix, Ariz., was the golf pro and managed the pro shop. While in Albert Lea he was part owner of Philly’s Restaurant.
Michael was an avid golfer, athlete and sports fan. He loved spending time with his family. He had a contagious smile and great attitude toward life. He also had a great love for cars.
Michael is survived by two sons: Zach and Nelson and their mother, Michelle Aakre, of Rochester; sister, Cathy Dodge, of Geneva, Ill.; brother, Chris (Retta) Edling, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Cheryl Edling, of Geneva, Ill., and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Mardell; brother, Jack Edling; and brother-in-law, Jim Dodge.
