Nyakier James Thiach, 18, and Nyamuoch Peter Chuony, 19, were charged in Mower County District Court Tuesday. Thiach was charged with two counts first-degree burglary, simple robbery, interfering with a 911 call and fifth-degree assault. Chuony faces two counts of first-degree burglary and one count of simple robbery.

The alleged burglary took place on the 900 block of Seventh Avenue NE around 9:45 p.m. Friday. Witnesses said the victim, who is reportedly eight months pregnant, was screaming for help.

According to a court complaint, Thiach and Chuony entered the woman’s apartment uninvited asking for someone named “Lucio” who reportedly owes them money. When the woman told them she doesn’t know anyone named Lucio, they demanded to know where Lucio lives.

The victim tried to call her landlord for help, and one of the women allegedly tried to take her phone. According to the complaint, Chuony told the woman she would get her brothers to come over if she called police.

When the landlord and police arrived, Thiach appeared to be keeping lookout for Chuony, according to the complaint. Thiach also reportedly dropped a plastic container holding $50 of change. The victim’s roommate identified it as his coin container.

When police questioned her, Thiach denied entering the apartment or stealing the coins. As she was being handcuffed, she said she stole the money because “they are here illegally,” according to a court complaint.

Thiach and Chuony are due back in court to enter their pleas on Aug. 11.
