The memorial service for Alvina E. Oothoudt, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bonnerup Funeral Service. Alvina died on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at ThorneCrest Retirement Community. She was 94. She was born March 17, 1917, in Erhard, the daughter of Art and Ella (Rogholt) Wissbrod. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School. Alvina met the love of her life, Jack Oothoudt, at a dance. They were married Jan. 1, 1939, in Erhard, and danced through life together for 72 years.
In 1941, Alvina and Jack made their home in Albert Lea where Jack opened Boyd and Jacks Grocery. In addition to raising sons Jerry and Robert, throughout the years Alvina helped at the store as a clerk, managing the floral department or wherever help was needed. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Naeve Hospital Auxiliary.
Alvina was a very passionate competitor in the games of golf and bridge. She was an awesome hostess and cook, always enjoying planning events to bring the family together.
Alvina will be greatly missed by her husband, Jack; son, Bob Oothoudt; and his wife, Kathy; grandson, Mike Oothoudt, and his wife, Janelle; granddaughter, Amber, and her husband, Jason Kraft, and their children: Rowan and Braden, all of Albert Lea; sister, Lorraine Knutson; brother, Bud Wissbord and his wife, Myrt; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jerry Oothoudt; sisters: LaVerne, and her husband, Jimmy Johnson, and Doris O’Meara.
