Austin eighth grader Madison Overby won the Lake City cross country Invite Tuesday.
Overby finished the race with a time of 15:23 and two of her teammates were right behind her as McKenzie Besel trotted in third with a personal best time of 15:35 and Haley Splinter took fourth with a time of 15:39.
Justice Tabor finished 12th for Austin.
“All four of those girls had strong runs and our fifth and sixth runners are picking it up too,” Austin head coach Tony Einertson said.
It was the second win of the fall for Overby, who actually took an unintentional detour down the stretch that cost her about 10 seconds, but she still won the race by 10 seconds.
“That happens once in awhile when nobody’s leading you, but she recovered from it right away,” Einertson said.
The Packer girls took third out of nine teams and the Austin boys took fifth.
Nate Schwab took seventh with a personal best time of 16:54 for the Austin boys and Andrew Baker took 16th.
“It’s nice to see Nate getting back to where we think he should be,” Einertson said.
Austin had a secondary group of five runners all finishe within a minute of each other.
“That group fed off each other and it was fun to see them all come in together, working as a team,” Einertson said.
The Hayfield boys took sixth and the girls finished eighth.
