Margene Gunderson is resigning as Public Health director to take a job in Olmsted County.
The Mower County Board is expected to accept her resignation at Tuesday’s county board meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m.
County Coordinator Craig Oscarson described the move as “a bigger and better opportunity” for Gunderson.
She will stay on with the county for about three to four weeks.
The county will have options in looking for her replacement. According to Oscarson, the board will have to decide whether to replace Gunderson or merge Public Health and Human Services, a move similar to the recent merging of Environmental Services and the Highway Department.
If merging is a viable option, the board would appoint an interim director while they study the possibility.
“It’s an opportunity, if they wish to study it, to delay any hiring,” Oscarson said.
Gunderson was out of the office Friday.
