Henry “Hank” Cheney, 66, of Austin, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Hank was born Aug. 17, 1945, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Henry Sr. and Donna (Van Sickle) Cheney. He graduated from the Spring Valley High School in 1964. He served in the Navy from 1965 until 1969. On Aug. 14, 1971, he married Joan Hanson at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. He worked for Crenlo for several years and then Hormel in Austin for 26 years. He was a member of the Masons, the Shriners, the American Legion and the Eagles. He enjoyed old cars, crossword puzzles and his dog, Sheba.

Hank is survived by his wife, Joan of Austin; daughter, Christina Bain of Spring Valley; son, Michael of Austin; six grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Richard, Katarina, Christopher and Haylee; great-grandchild, L.J.; sister, Janice (Freeman) Welch; two stepbrothers, Russell (Charlotte) Wilson of Birmingham, Ala., and A.G. (Audrey) Wilson of Gillette, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Alford Wilson and a stepsister, Ann Durst.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial will be in the Scheie North Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
