Joan M. List, 78 of Austin died on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin.

Joan was born on July 6, 1933 in Austin to Daniel and Hazel (Smith) Hatfield. She graduated from Austin High School. In 1950, Joan married Richard List in Austin. Richard and Joan owned and operated Austin Transportation for 24 years.

Joan and her husband enjoyed spending the last 30 years fishing at Birch Point Camp in Ontario, Canada. She also loved spending time with her family, gardening, cooking and reading.

Joan is survived by her husband Richard List, Austin; children Linda and Randy Schroeder, Lakeville, Becky Crumb, Austin, Lori and Jim Nelson, Duluth, Daved and Janie List, Medford, Richard J. and Amy List, Austin, Kerri and Kyle Klaehn, Austin; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; siblings Robert Hatfield, Austin, Ronald Hatfield, Austin, Pauleen Hoff, Austin, Betty Farley, Sun City, Ariz.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Mark Crumb, brother John Hatfield, and sisters Darlene Yauger and Phyllis Hatfield.

Casket bears will be Nathan Nelson, Bradley Nelson, Tony Crumb, Casey Crumb, Justin List and Zachary Klaehn. Honorary casket bearer will be Gabe List.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday for one hour before the service. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Research Center.
